Are you planning to visit Laguna de Tota in Boyacá, Colombia? Don't miss this travel guide where you will discover the best plans, accommodations, and tips to make the most of this destination.
The Laguna de Tota is located in the heart of the Boyacá department, northeast of Bogotá. It is approximately 15 kilometers from the municipality of Aquitania, and about 40 minutes by car from Sogamoso, one of the main cities in the region.
If you are in a distant place, you must first arrive in Bogotá, the nearest city with an airport. Once in Bogotá, head to the nearest transport terminal; in our case, we took the one in the north and took a bus heading to Sogamoso, in Boyacá
Upon arriving in Sogamoso, at the terminal, ask for the Cootracero buses, which are the ones that go to Lake Tota. On the bus, tell the driver to drop you off at Playa Blanca, you will arrive in about 40 minutes. When we went, the ticket cost us $8,000 COP, but remember that the price can change over time
Upon arrival, you will realize that Laguna de Tota offers a variety of activities for both adventurers and those looking to relax. Here are some of the best options:
The attraction of the lagoon is Playa Blanca, a white sand beach that seems to be taken from the Caribbean. It is perfect for walking, relaxing under the sun, or having a picnic with views of the turquoise water. Although the water is cold, the bravest dare to swim
If you like more active activities, you can rent kayaks or paddle boats to explore the lagoon. It is a unique experience that offers you another perspective of the mountains and landscapes that surround it
The region surrounding Laguna de Tota has hiking routes for all levels. You can walk around, climb to viewpoints, or venture into the mountains. The views are breathtaking and there are native birds
