Capurganá is located on the border with Panama, which makes it a unique destination full of history and culture. Capurganá is a charming coastal town located in the municipality of Acandí, in the north of the department of Chocó.
We took a flight from Bogotá to the city of Montería in the department of Córdoba. Upon arriving at the airport, you can wait for the bus or take a taxi for $25,000 COP - $6.5 USD to the transport terminal.
However, if you like the idea, you can wait for other travelers and share the taxi to save money. We shared the taxi :D
Once at the transport terminal, look for the buses that go to Necoclí. We recommend taking a minibus for $45,000 COP - $11 USD approx, although there are also large buses that take you for $35,000 COP - $8 USD approx.
Keep in mind that large buses usually take longer, as they make stops in towns or villages.
Once you are in Necoclí, head to the maritime port. Here you will have to take a boat to Capurganá. The cost of this journey was $170,000 COP or 43 USD approx, including round trip, due to the high season. Usually in normal times, it is cheaper.
And that's it, that's all! If you are in a city other than Bogotá, your route may vary. Remember that you must get to Necoclí to take the boat to Capurganá. This is the cheapest way we got there.
There is also the option to get directly to Capurganá by plane, but keep in mind that this method is usually more expensive.
A quick and convenient way to get to Capurganá is to take a flight from Medellín to Acandí airport.
There are several airlines that offer charter flights (non-regular flights usually contracted for specific groups). Keep in mind that charter flight prices can be somewhat high.
If your plan is to be in a lively environment, with music, commerce and other things similar to a city or town, then Capurganá is perfect for you.
However, if you are looking for tranquility and to get away from the urban environment, we recommend Sapzurro. We chose this option :) This place is very close to Capurganá, and to get there from the port, you can take a boat for $10,000 COP or 3 USD approx.

Discover Sapzurro and La Miel in Capurganá! These two beaches located on the border with Panama are waiting for you.
But if you stayed in Sapzurro this is no longer necessary, enjoy the crystal clear waters and take the walk to La Miel, a dreamy Panamanian beach.
Remember to carry your identification or passport, when crossing the border with Panama they will ask you to identify yourself.
El Aguacate bay is another of Capurganá's hidden treasures. It is located 10 minutes by boat or an hour and a half on foot. Once there, you can enjoy its crystal clear waters and discover the fascinating coral banks that surround it. Don't forget to bring your snorkeling or diving gear!
