La Cocha Lagoon is a glacial reservoir, surrounded by Andean mountains, it is a sanctuary of biodiversity and a must-see destination if you are in the department of Nariño
This place was declared the first wetland of international importance in the Andean region in the year 2000, the La Cocha Lagoon hosts an unparalleled ecological richness. Its crystal clear waters can reach a depth of up to 75 meters
The Lagoon is home to several aquatic species. Its shores and the emblematic La Corota Island offer a privileged habitat for a variety of birds, amphibians, and endemic plants
La Cocha Lagoon is located in the department of Nariño, in southwestern Colombia. It is located about 40 minutes by road from the city of Pasto, the capital of the department.
The first thing is to get to the city of Pasto, for this if you go by plane you can take a flight to the Antonio Nariño Airport in the municipality of Chachagüí, once here you can go out to wait for a bus on the road or take a shared taxi that will drop you off at Bolívar Square in Pasto
Once in the Square, head to the Carnival Square. You can take a taxi or walk approximately 6 minutes. Once in the square, ask where the vans to La Cocha Lagoon leave. Similarly, we leave you the address of the parking lot: Carrera 20a #19. Once you take the van, you will arrive in about 40 minutes at the La Cocha Lagoon
La Cocha Lagoon is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor activities. From boat rides on its crystal clear waters to walks on ecological trails, there are several options to enjoy this place
We recommend taking the tour offered at the pier, which includes a visit to the Corota Island
One of the most popular activities is to visit the Flora and Fauna Sanctuary Isla La Corota, a protected area of 12 hectares but with incredible natural wealth. Here, visitors can walk the trails that cross the island, enjoying panoramic views and observing the endemic flora and fauna
For fishing lovers, La Cocha Lagoon offers the opportunity to practice sport fishing for rainbow trout, a species introduced in the 20th century that has found an ideal habitat in these waters
Here visitors can enjoy the Andean tranquility with stunning views and bird watching emblematic species such as the Coot, the diving duck, and other species of the region
