The first thing is to get to Cartagena, a city well connected with national and international routes. Once there, getting to the National Aviary is easy and you have several options depending on your budget:
Private Car or Taxi: If you prefer comfort, you can take a car or taxi from Cartagena. The journey to Barú Island takes about 45 minutes, and taxis charge between $80,000 COP to $100,000 COP depending on your location. This option gives you more flexibility to move at your own pace.
Organized Tour: Several agencies in Cartagena offer tours that include transportation and sometimes a guided visit inside the aviary. It's ideal if you don't want to worry about the details.
Public Transportation: If you're looking for an economical option, you can take a bus to Pasacaballos for $3,000 COP and then a mototaxi or tuk-tuk to the aviary for $12,000 COP. Although it's cheaper, this journey can be slower and less comfortable. We took this option
