Did you know that deep in Colombia hides a magical place where waterfalls, caves, and mountains seem to come out of a story? The Ventanas de Tisquizoque are not only a fascinating destination, but also a perfect setting for adventures and incredible photos. But how to get there? What to do? And most importantly, what makes this place so special? Stay until the end to find out.
The Ventanas de Tisquizoque are located in the municipality of Florián, in the department of Santander, Colombia. This natural destination is surrounded by mountains and green landscapes that seem taken from a postcard.
Getting to this destination is part of the experience.
From Bogotá or Bucaramanga: Head to the nearest bus terminal and take a bus to Barbosa, Boyacá and get off at the bus terminal.
From Barbosa to Florián: At the Barbosa terminal, board a campero or chiva to Florián, Santander. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and costs $30,000 COP. The Ventanas are on the way so you can ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance to the windows.
From Florián to Las Ventanas: The path to the Ventanas de Tisquizoque is about a 30-minute walk, although it depends on your pace. If you have a lot of luggage, we recommend leaving your things at a hotel before going, due to the conditions of the path.
Extra: If you arrived in Florián and left your luggage at the hotel, check if there is a car back to Barbosa. Ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance; the cost is $2,000 COP and you save the walk.
Note: Some recommended going to the municipality of Puente Nacional, but we found that Barbosa has more hotel options, commerce, and services. Also, from Barbosa, vehicles depart to Florián, making the trip easier and more practical. That's why we suggest starting your adventure from Barbosa, but you can also do it from Puente Nacional
The Ventanas de Tisquizoque are not only a natural attraction, they also have a fascinating history. According to local legend, their name comes from an indigenous man named Tisquizoque, who preferred to jump from the mountains rather than be captured by the Spanish conquerors.
The place is known for its three consecutive waterfalls that fall from inside a cave. The first waterfall is 86 meters high, the second 110 meters, and the third 126 meters. This natural phenomenon makes the site a unique spectacle, perfect for photography enthusiasts.

From Florián, you can walk to the Ventanas or wait for a bus to drop you off at the entrance. We left the suitcase at the hotel and took the bus to Barbosa, which dropped us off at the entrance for $2,000 COP. Once there, we started the walk, which is free.
As you start the walk from the entrance, you can enjoy a lot of nature. You will have to descend several steps, so be careful, especially during the rainy season, as they can become slippery and avoid accidents
Also along the way, you will find stone sculptures that serve as a guide so you don't get lost. After a few minutes of walking, you will arrive at an impressive large cave, and you will have reached your destination!
Once you enter the cave and walk to the end of the cave, you will find the amazing panoramic view of the Ventana de Tiquizque.
